Everyone who lives in New Jersey is surrounded by hundreds of ethnic restaurants, but it's hard to find the best ones quickly, when you're hungry.
There are plenty of reviews and restaurant information on the web, but it's not all in one place or easily searched. EthnicNJ.com sifts through all of it and puts the good stuff in one place, on one map.
Help find the best ethnic food in Jersey. Sixteen featured cuisines so far - Chinese, Costa Rican, Ethiopian, Indian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Pizza, Mexican, Peruvian, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Diner (New Jersey), Burgers (American) and Hot Dogs (American). The cold weather and Robert Sietsema’s Village Voice article on ramen in NYC motivated me to find New Jersey’s best bowl. Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater pops up quickly in any search for the best Japanese food in New Jersey. We went last weekend, and were rewarded for the trip to Bergen County. The bowl of pork ramen pictured above catapults [...]

“After moving to the suburbs from Hoboken, my husband and I lamented the lack of an exceptional sushi restaurant. In Hoboken, it’s hard to walk down the street without passing at least one sushi spot, and while they aren’t extraordinary, most surpass what we tried in the suburbs. [...]

Morristown’s Sushi Lounge, a chain with two other NJ locations in Hoboken and Totowa, has black lacquered tables, a chic bar, and an elevated DJ booth. I’m sure many people go for the slick downtown vibe, but you should also go for some very good sushi and Japanese-inspired food.
There are actually two bars in this large, [...]

Visit Strawberry’s Pub & Pizza in Woodbridge for their very popular bar pie pizzas. They serve a good thin crust with some black specks underneath. Not too thin to fold. The pies here are on the saucy side, with a tangy tomato sauce, and a nice variety of toppings including baby clams and jalapenos. Among [...]

Head to North Bergen for an ethnic cuisine hard to find on this side of the Hudson – Argentinian food. La Fusta serves meat, lots of meat, cooked the way they do it in Buenos Aires – a la parilla.
La Fusta’s extensive menu is, not surprisingly, beef-centric. To start, order the Matambre Casero (stuffed rolled flank [...]

Thanks go out to the EthnicNJ reader who called our attention to this tiny Thai spot in Middlesex County. It’s so small, attached to a BBQ joint and a laundromat on Route 35 South, that we drove past it twice using GPS. (It’s across from the Burger King. If you hit the Route 1/9 overpass [...]

A better combination of food, drink and surroundings you are unlikely to find. The Quiet Man in Dover is my new favorite Irish pub.
Distinctively-decorated on the outside, the squat building at the corner of East McFarlan and Hudson has no visible windows. You might hesitate before entering. Don’t. Inside, a warm, wood-paneled bar and dining [...]
Visit New Jersey’s ethnic restaurants and you can travel the world without leaving the Garden State. People living in New Jersey have plenty of reasons to stay home, but we also venture abroad from time to time. Our family headed West this summer, for some hiking, and eating. Our vacation had many food highlights and [...]
Where in New Jersey is this flag?
The first ten people to email me the correct restaurant and town, get a free ENJ bumper sticker (as soon as we get some made).
Happy Fourth!

“Restaurant Weeks” are catching on in the Garden State. Organized by the local chamber of commerce or restaurant association, participating restaurants offer discounts, special menus and other deals.
We couldn’t find a complete list of Jersey’s restaurant weeks, so EthnicNJ.com did some research. This calendar lists what we’ve found so far. Any missing? Post the info [...]
