- Abhiruchi offers Central Jersey diners flavorful and unpretentious Indian cuisine. With a menu covering North Indian, South Indian, and Indo-Chinese food, you can sample plenty in one sitting, and we did. Intrigued by a local review (NJIndia.US below), we tasted Upma (Cream of wheat with onion, chili, ginger, and cashew nuts) for the first time – delicious (wish I could have that for breakfast at home). Then the Dosas hit the table, dosas the size of baseball bats. Once we figured out how to eat them (breaking off pieces of crepe with our hands and scooping up the spicy potato mixture), the Spicy Masala Dosa got the spices flowing. Our main dishes – Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, Lamb Koorma, and Hyderabad Chicken Dum Biryani – were all very good, the Tikka Masala might be the best I’ve had. A basket of fluffy Garlic Naan disappeared quickly. Sipping cool, sweet Mango Lassi finally extinguished the dueling chilies in my mouth.
This spacious storefront restaurant in a strip mall next to Patel’s Cash & Carry does a brisk take out business. The second location of an Iselin restaurant, service at Abhiruchi North Brunswick is efficient, and helpful for those of us just learning what Indian food is all about. Abhiruchi’s food is plentiful and inexpensive. Pace yourself, because you’re going to want to share every appetizer, all the main dishes, and then a long nap.
