New Jersey is a hot dog hotbed.
Deep fried “rippers” from Rutt’s Hut in Clifton, Paterson-style Texas Weiners, and the Italian hot dog loaded with potatoes, peppers and onions are uniquely Jersey creations, and must be part of any serious debate about the best hot dogs in the country. I’m partial to deep fried dogs with serious “snap,” and simple toppings: mustard and kraut or spicy relish.
